Pottery Care & FAQs

Handmade. One of a kind. Made to live with.

Every piece at Willow & Hearth Studio is wheel-thrown and finished by hand. Some are functional pottery for the table; others are sculptural or decorative. The individual product listing is the best guide to how a particular piece should be used.

Can I use my pottery for food?

Look for “food safe” in the product description. Some vessels and sculptural works are intended for decorative use only. If a piece is not explicitly described as food safe, please ask before using it with food.

Can it go in the dishwasher, oven, or microwave?

Care instructions vary by piece. For pieces labeled dishwasher safe, gentle handwashing is still recommended to help preserve their finish. Food safe does not automatically mean oven safe or microwave safe. Unless a listing explicitly says otherwise, avoid oven and microwave use and sudden temperature changes.

Are these exact pieces available?

Most pieces are made only once. The photographs show the actual pottery offered, and availability is shown on the product page. A piece marked sold out is no longer available to purchase through that listing.

How does shipping work?

Shipping costs are shown during checkout. Because handmade ceramics vary in size and shape, packaging needs can vary, too. Some exhibition pieces have a later shipping date; any such timing will be noted on the specific listing.

What if my order arrives damaged?

Please contact the studio promptly with your order number and clear photos of the item and its packaging so we can review what happened and discuss next steps. You can use the contact page or email willowandhearthstudio@gmail.com.

Do you accept custom commissions?

Yes—thoughtful, original ideas are welcome. Whether you have a shape, glaze direction, or functional piece in mind, send a note describing what you are looking for. Commissions depend on the design, available tools, firing requirements, and studio capacity, so every request is considered individually.

The Willow behind the name

This is Willow, my golden retriever, and a deeply loved part of my life. The studio carries her name because the joy she brings me belongs in the story of what I make that feeling, inspires my pottery: creating pieces with character that people can welcome into their homes, enjoy, and grow attached to.
